Pinnacle Renewable Energy Inc. is one of the world’s leading manufacturers and distributors of industrial wood pellets, which are used by large-scale thermal power generators as a greener alternative to produce reliable baseload renewable power.

Pinnacle currently operates eight wood pellet production facilities throughout western Canada, and one production facility in Alabama, that process a wide range of wood fibre (primarily forest product residuals).

The Opportunity

Pinnacle is currently looking at solutions for dryer efficiency, including but not limited to better measurement and sensing technology, for the dryers to help them manage their evaporation and airflow, so that they aren’t wasting as much energy.

The Challenge

Pinnacle’s bed dryers consume >90% of their fossil fuels on site. The company finds that these bed dryers consume a great amount of energy in the winter months, as they need to heat massive amounts of cold air.

Pinnacle is looking at ways to reduce their natural gas consumption while maintaining or increasing the amount of evaporation from the dryers.

The Details

The Pinnacle webinar was held on April 23, 2020.
