Why we’re launching a content event

I’m so excited to announce our content conference at long last — Content by Design.

I’ve long felt the UK needs its share of content design conferences. There are a few content conferences but those focused on content within product design tend to happen stateside. So for the past few months I’ve been approaching my content heroes around the globe, asking them to assemble for this two day conference. Bringing together their collective experience will give attendees an amazing chance to hear their practical tips and advice.

As someone who’s led content teams, worked in product teams and is now agency-side at Clearleft, I often see businesses to fall into the content trap: content design is under-resourced, practitioners aren’t brought into the design process early enough and can’t add as much value as they could. It then becomes hard for content designers to think strategically or spend time influencing the wider business on the importance of content. The business then fails to invest because it can’t see the value…it’s an endless cycle.

Breaking this cycle means understanding what good content design looks like, fostering better collaboration, and scaling up the role of content. So these are the three strands we’ll cover at Content by Design.

Everyone from content designers and designers, through to product and team leads, has a part to play if we’re to master the marriage between design and content, so this conference is aimed at all these roles.

At Content by Design we’ll hear from those who’ve built and led teams, influenced large orgs to value content design, and inspired a whole generation of content designers (like me) to create better content.

Attendees will take away a better understanding of how content fits into the design process, how to collaborate effectively, methods to scale content with impact, plus practical skills such as designing for accessibility or designing voice UI if they take part in the workshops.

It’s about upskilling content designers and designers, but more than that — it’s about helping them address their current challenges of collaboration, influencing and scaling up the role of content.

Because great design needs great content, so let’s make it happen.

The postponed Content by Design takes place on 6th and 7th July online. Early bird tickets are on sale now.

This event is brought to you by Clearleft, a strategic design consultancy based in the UK. We work with global brands to design and redesign products and services, bring strategic clarity, and transform digital culture.
