7 Ways I Improved My Mental Health
You can adopt these ways to improve your own mental health.
Since life is full of challenges, anxiety or stress can hit you at any time.
You can feel stressed due to losing a job, work-related stress, toxic relation, financial crises, or unpredictable world events.
Here I am going to tell you the 7 most effective ways that helped me improve my mental health.
1. I Give Myself a Break
If for any reason I feel anxious or stressed, I take a time out.
I know that my body and mind need rest. I step back from the problem I am trying to cope with. I try to clear my head.
When stressed, I turn to meditation or prayer, go for a nature walk, or practice yoga.
Sometimes I listen to my favorite music because it gives me relaxation and helps me divert my attention from the agonizing issue at hand.
Massaging and relaxation techniques such as deep breathing also relax my anxious mind and body.
2. Eat Balanced Diet
Sometimes, not eating healthy food or going hours without eating triggers mental stress. That is why I always try to eat a well-balanced diet(it is low in fat, sugar, and salt, and high in fiber)
I never skip main meals.
When feeling fatigued or tired, I eat my favorite energy-boosting snacks or drink fresh juices. These small food intakes keep my mind and body refreshed and energized.
3. Get Sound sleep
Proper sleep is crucial to recharge your mind and body. When anxious or stressed, our body needs additional rest.
When I take good sleep, this boosts my immune system, strengthens my heart, uplifts my mood, increases productivity, and improves my memory.
4. Physical Activity
Regular exercise or any supporting activity improves our muscle strength.
I prefer to go for a fifteen-minute walk which delivers a supply of oxygen to my lungs and allows my cardiovascular system to work more smoothly.
My healthy and improved heart and lungs help me tackle the problems in a better way.
5. Avoid Negativity
A positive attitude is a must for better heart and mental health.
Looking at the bright side of life increases my productivity at work and allows me to overcome day-to-day obstacles.
Positivity helps me build a better relationship with my friends and family.
When stressed, I write a journal to jot down my thoughts.
I avoid overthinking and try to come out of past regrets and future concerns because I know they will serve no purpose. All I have is this present moment.
I try to live in the now and try to replace every negative thought with at least two positive thoughts.
6. Volunteering
To me, volunteering is one of the best ways to combat depression and anxiety. Not only does it uplift me physically but also spiritually because by helping others I feel as if I am doing God’s work.
Such altruistic activities make me self-confident, boost my self-esteem, and increase life satisfaction.
Helping others makes me active in my community and gives me a break from everyday hectic routines.
7. Watch Out For My Triggers
I always try to discover what triggers my stress.
Sometimes it is family, work, a toxic person, or any unpredictable event which makes me anxious and stressed.
For example, when somebody hurts me, I try to avoid him or her instead of feeling hurt.
Because I know feeling hurt will make me stressed and avoiding will help me tackle the situation in a better way.
It is so because focusing on the hurt makes us stressed so we continue to suffer, but when we focus on the lesson, we continue to grow.
Conclusion
Anxiety and stress should be taken seriously and avoided at all costs. Because if not managed property depression can leave us mentally and physically retarded. Follow the above techniques and live a fulfilling and healthy life.
