No matter what goal you are pursuing in life, it is important to know that burnout will creep up if you do not take care of yourself.

We are continuously looking at our destination, which does not seem like a harmful thing; with that said, it is essential that we enjoy the process. Have patience. Be diligent, but know when you’re pushing yourself too hard. The destination is worthless if the journey was non-existent. Gaining 1 million Instagram followers after having Instagram for 1 day, does not feel the same as being active for 10 years on Instagram and gaining 1 million followers. It’s the pain, struggle and slow build-up which make the reward that much more rewarding. Enjoy the process, smell the roses and achieve your goal one step at a time.

We break things down into realistic timelines. We do not want to bite off more than we can chew. We do not want to hold more plates than we can handle. Ultimately, we focus on consistency over intensity.

If you are an employee, you have a serious conversation with your employer about the amount of work that they are assigning. If you are an employer, you consider lessening the workload (quantity) for the sake of improving the quality of it. Maybe your employees have fewer tasks to do, but they end up putting more effort into a few tasks instead of spreading themselves thin for many tasks.

Remember, unrealistic expectations lead to stress, and chronic stress leads to burnout. Thus if we want to address burnout, we must begin by looking at the expectations that we, or others set for ourselves.
