Rarely do things go as planned.

Today, our relationships could be going well, but tomorrow the story could be the opposite. Same case for our health, work, business, projects, and environment.

How do we remain sane both in our lives and work when changes are becoming increasingly common?

The ability to accept negative emotions and thoughts without judging them is key in managing the changes around us.

Acceptance

It is exhausting to try to push away negative thoughts and feelings.

Acceptance means stopping fighting with your moment-to-moment experience.

Acceptance is not giving up, but rather using the feedback from the moment-to-moment experiences to chart your next move.

How to practice acceptance through mindfulness

  1. Acknowledge your feelings, emotions, frustration at the moment. For example, I am feeling upset or I feel disappointed or I feel pain.
  2. Notice the part of your body where the feeling is located. If it is sadness, you may feel it on your stomach. If it's anger you may notice it as tightness in your chest.
  3. Examine what is causing you to feel and act that way. Could it be your beliefs about a change, work, friend, or relationship? Be objective by asking yourself if it is a fact or your opinion?
  4. Choose how to respond. Your actions could be changing your beliefs, talking to a professional, voicing your concerns at work, or accepting that the feelings, emotions, or changes will pass since they are temporary events in your mental state.
