Clearbox Is Now Available In Spanish: Making Citizenship Accessible to More People

Our goal at Clearbox is to make it easy and affordable to create a high-quality application for U.S. citizenship.
One important way we do that is by using simple, plain language in our tools. Many government forms use difficult words that people don’t know. That can be scary. Some people decide not to apply because they think they won’t be able to complete the form.
That language barrier is a big problem that we can help solve.
The Clearbox website and application is now available in English and Spanish because creating a citizenship application should be easy. Immigrants can check their eligibility, upload their supporting documents, and answer questions about their history with instructions that are easy to understand. Messages from the support team will be written in the language that the applicant has chosen (English or Spanish).
Almost all applicants will still need to take an English test at their citizenship interview, but filling out the application is a separate activity It makes sense to do it in whatever language the applicant is most comfortable with so everything is correct. It’s important to understand the application and the information that goes in it.
Switching languages in the application is easy. There is a language switcher on every page in the application and informational website.
Adding Spanish support to our application is an important part of our vision of making the citizenship application process comfortable and accessible for the 9 million Lawful Permanent Residents (LPR) who are eligible to apply.
Obviously, Spanish speakers are not the only group who benefit from instructions in their native language, but they are the largest group, at more than 40% of the total LPR population. We chose to start with Spanish and we hope to learn more about how to expand our language options in the future.
