Some of our product and content designers gathered on a call to wrap up the week. Buncha hams.

Design is integral to our work here at ClearScore.
We know.
Lots of companies say that.
But ClearScore started with user-first design right from day one, which is pretty unusual for a fintech startup. Our founding designer, Frank Sedivy, was employee number 3 (or 4, it depends who got through the door first on that day) and he’s still leading us now.

But even more important than our past is what we’re working on right now. And ClearScore sees user-centered design as the heart of everything we do, every day, here in year 7 as we scale up.

Who are we?

The Design team at ClearScore is made up of product designers, UX researchers, content designers, creative designers and creative technologists. We work in multi-disciplinary squads to create our products and supporting marketing assets, support our design system and localisation work, and most importantly put our users at the heart of our product.

What does ClearScore do?

Our products — currently ClearScore and DriveScore with more in development — are designed to put people back in control of their credit and insurance. We work to ensure all our users can understand how best to reach their financial goals, particularly what affects their access to credit, and how to improve or maintain their financial position. We never judge our users. We want them to be able to navigate the complex world of credit and financial services and take the best action for them.

And what about the Design team?

Over in Design, we have big gnarly problems to tackle like: How do we turn data into easy-to-understand reports? How do we know what is the best action for individual users? How do we present and explain these without overwhelming people with jargon or too many choices? And how do we do this in the most interactive and active way possible?

From the outside, our products look simple but under the hood there is so much going on. Every user, whichever of our marketplaces around the world they are in, sees their own version of ClearScore or DriveScore. That’s powered by an enormous data engine, heaps of personalised product features created for every kind of user (so you might not even see some of them depending on your credit score and open banking data), and a deep belief in a user-first experience throughout everything we do.

But it’s not a done deal. We always have more to do — and we have a truly exciting roadmap, as we look to evolve our products to offer an even better experience for every one of our users.

But what’s it like being a Designer at ClearScore?

So glad you asked! We’ve started this Medium space to dig into that topic and to showcase some of our unique work and brilliant team members. We’re going to be putting out a number of interviews and case studies over the coming weeks and months.
But to whet your appetite, here are some quotes from our current Design team members:

“The amount of transparency within the business is so refreshing! And the design team are a crazy talented bunch.”

“Even before passing probation, I had a bathful of feedback, compliments and praise. All because this design team is some of the most empathetic, caring and talented bunch people I have worked with.”

“Something one of our Design mission leads said to a Design team member that stood out from our design kick-off this year: “You don’t work for me, I work for you”. This is coming from a design leader!”

“Collaborative, awesome, talented bunch of humans!”

We promise we didn’t bribe them, honest.

Hopefully we’ve piqued your curiosity about what makes ClearScore Design different from the average fintech design team but, of course, there’s lots more to tell you about our work and our Design team. Watch this space, or even better bookmark us.

Are you hiring?

Oh boy, are we! We are looking for product designers and content designers at a range of levels, with additional roles in UX and product discovery research, creative design and creative technology also available. You can check out our careers site and available roles on LinkedIn.

If you’re interested in applying for any of our roles, our talent team and hiring managers are happy to answer any of your questions.
We like to keep our interview process straightforward and it’s as much for you to find out about us, as the other way around. We’re looking forward to seeing your application!
