I am a Social Media Manager, Digital Marketing Consultant, Creator of You Are Not Alone and Former Founder of Moment Clothing from London. I’ve still currently/done PR, Social Media Management and Digital Marketing Consulting work for a range of clients, including Guzzi’s World (Vlogger), Goodwood Pictures (Filmmaker), YSYS formerly known as Startup Stories Worldwide (SSW) , FWRD , Croydon Labour Party and more, including starting my own clothing line (Moment Clothing) with a friend back in 2013.
My love for Marketing came about in a strange way, as at first my major interest was in politics. However, I still always had a love for social media and technology, even with friends constantly asking me to help them manage their social media platforms for them when they started their own business, ventures, photography or music career. I never really thought at first that I had a skill for social media or digital marketing, I just absolutely loved using social media constantly, engaging with others and creating funny and engaging content. Furthermore, my love for social media and digital marketing fully developed just recently, after failing my second year of University twice (due to bereavement of my father as I was still grieving and other personal issues) the result of this, was that I couldn’t continue doing my course (politics) at the University.
After this depressing period for me and time away from academia, it gave me time to think about what I really enjoyed doing, which is social media management and digital marketing. This then led me to set myself up as a Freelance Social Media Manager and Digital Marketing Consultant, helping friends who started/ing their own start-ups, businesses, ventures (YSY, Surprise Them With Progress)and those who are musicians (Mr Outspoken), vloggers (Guzzi’s World), photographers (the lonely ldnr) and filmmakers (Goodwood Pictures); I help them manage their social media, grow their online presence, help create their personal brand and produce engaging relatable content for all their social media platforms; as well as coming up with creative ideas for them to engage with their followers e.g. competitions and storytelling — start-ups or artists — how they got to where they are now, what they do behind the scenes, advising them to document their journey to their audience via their social media outlets, just to name a few.
I believe social media is a community. An online space for people to communicate, network, discuss and showcase their talents, businesses or projects, as well for brands to engage with their customers and vise versa customers engaging with their favourite brands. For this reason, I pride myself in being an avid social media user, as well as a Social Media Manager and Digital Marketing Consultant; producing exceptional and creative social media content/campaigns; intuitive content creation and branding that emotively resonates and engages with followers.
My journey up to this very moment has been down to hard work, putting myself out there, self awareness, perseverance, networking, constantly willing to learn and develop my current skills and learn new skills, as well as my continued passion for what I love doing — social media and marketing.
I am currently taking the Google Digital Garage online Digital Marketing course to further my skills in digital marketing, as well as trying to seek internships at marketing agencies, which has proven hard without having a degree at the moment but I continue to persevere and know that with my hard work I will eventually get one.
At the moment, I am currently freelancing. I have recently began working on one of my personal ventures You Are Not Alone -an online platform where people who suffer/ed with mental health illnesses can share their stories; with a similar approach as Humans of New York but extending it further than just a picture and a quote but having a space (a blog) where they can share in depth about their battle with their mental health illness. The other venture is to start my very own charity helping underprivileged children firstly in Jamaica then aiming to expand to other Caribbean countries then Africa. I’m looking for people who would like to get involved and to help get my ideas off the ground.
I have a strong and passionate interest in social media, marketing and the development of new technology. I’m in need of a mentor in those industries, a mentor that will give me the necessary knowledge, experience and opportunity to gain the required skills needed in the marketing industry so I can excel in these fields. I have been searching and haven’t found one yet, but I continue to persevere in my search for that person.
At present, I’m currently looking for a marketing internship where I can gain valuable career and life experience, knowledge and skills to enable me to start a career in marketing and to conquer the marketing industry.
