Project update 6 September

While much of the work done on Cleveland Bridge to date has been essential for structural resilience, we also appreciate its significance as a Grade II* listed structure, therefore great effort is also being put into restoring its visual appearance above deck.

This includes matching original paint colours, and getting identical heritage kerbs specially cast to enable the extension of the kerbing to provide greater protection to the columns / toll houses. Samples of the new castings were delivered to site this week for our contractors to inspect before reinstallation of the kerb line is completed.

The remaining sections of the old waterproofing layer were also removed this week, and preparation is taking place on the bridge deck prior to the re-waterproofing operation which is planned for 13 to 17 September. As noted previously, during the waterproofing process the current emergency access lane will be suspended; the emergency services are aware and have plans in place to work around the closure.
