Spotify Affiliate Program

Making Money with Spotify

Music streaming is on the rise, but not everyone has figured out how to make money from it. Spotify makes it easy for you to earn revenue by simply giving away your personal information. In return, advertisers pay you a commission when they purchase ads on your playlist or discover that their demographic matches yours.

In addition to earning music through streaming services like Pandora and Spotify, you can join affiliate programs as well. The potential to earn a $35,000 salary in 10 months (lesson learned from one man) is pretty awesome.

First, listen to Spotify’s podcast called, “How I Made It.”

It discusses how Greg Mills went from working at Red Lobster and being scared about his future career prospects to becoming a full-time streamer.

In the story, he started out with a job with the help of his dad. Then he started making music that people enjoyed enough for him to quit his job. In just one year he made over $35,000 through his music streaming service alone.

He is an example of somebody who went out and did the work, attended music conferences and networking events, and didn’t settle for what was handed to him. He made his own way by just doing the necessary steps.

Now that you know more about what Spotify has to offer, it’s time to get into the nitty gritty details on joining. What is an affiliate program? How do you join? What are the costs? Do these programs generate income for you? These are some of the questions I’ll be addressing in this article.

What is an affiliate program?

An affiliate program pays you for recruiting others to join a service or buy something. A commission is cut from the third-party company and distributed to you when someone makes a purchase or subscribes. The commission usually depends on how much the advertiser would pay, so if one pays $100 per referral, you can make up to $100 as well.

How do I join?

To get started, sign up for a free account on through your existing Spotify profile. They will connect your accounts, and you can start referring friends to Spotify. You’ll receive a $5 credit when they open their account.

What are the costs? Are there benefits of joining?

There are no costs to join, but you’ll get a $5 credit for every friend that signs up through your affiliate link and pays for their first month. Free services usually have certain restrictions, so be mindful of them. For example, Spotify limits users to five referrals per day and one referral per hour.

If you’re not into referring others to Spotify, you can join the program and earn money by other means as well. You can earn more than $5 per friend by completing other tasks.

Are there benefits of joining the Spotify affiliate program?

What’s great about this program is the ability to scale your income. In the beginning, you’ll make money from referrals, but eventually it’ll become a full-time job (especially if you follow Greg Mills’ example). Through Spotify’s help page, they list all the things you can do to earn money from a streaming service like Spotify:

“How much can I make as an affiliate for my streaming and/or download services? This depends on how many people use and subscribe to your service. For example, if you have 100 active referrals, and if each of them pays for a $10 per month subscription, you will earn $100 per month and we will automatically continue to pay you that amount each month. There is no need to give us any additional information or maintain any minimum activity level.”

How Can I Earn Money with Spotify?

There are three different methods of earning money from Spotify through its affiliate program: directing traffic from your website or social media accounts, creating YouTube videos that promote Spotify services and creating native advertising campaigns for the site.

You can earn money as an affiliate by directing traffic to other websites that feature Spotify’s official affiliate links in their content. You will receive 50% of the fees that users make on whatever website they sign up for after clicking your link.

To get started with this method, signing up for a Spotify affiliate account is free and you’ll need to have an existing website or blog as well as time to post articles about Spotify where you’re likely to receive clicks from potential customers who are browsing your site. The best time to post content about Spotify, according to their analytics team, is between 9am and 4pm PST. This may require you to start posting articles around the same times each day.

YouTube is another great place to promote Spotify, but it requires you to make videos and consider the time commitment. You don’t have to be an expert in video creation, but you do need to have a significant amount of time available to devote to the project.

Spotify lets you create native ads for their website within its profile pages on social media sites. This means that you can integrate your affiliate link into your LinkedIn status updates and other online profiles, so that when people read about Spotify on your profiles they will be directed right over to their website.

You can also use Spotify’s marketing templates featured on its main page and its help section as a way of promoting their services. You can use the templates to tell your followers or customers about Spotify’s free trials, monthly subscriptions, pricing and other services.

Spotify also has an options-based affiliate program that makes it easier for people to connect with your email newsletter or social media posts. If you have a Spotify newsletter, you can link it right up to your affiliate links. Additionally, if you have a Facebook fan page, you can tag all of the users who are fans on Spotify so that they end up on their website when they click the Facebook icon in their e-mail systems.

Affiliate Tracking Tools

You need to use tools that track conversions if you want to make money from your affiliate marketing efforts with Spotify. You can use tools including Google Analytics, Custom Audiences or Qualaroo to monitor your affiliate marketing campaigns.

With Google Analytics, you’ll be able to track all of your affiliate campaigns and make sure that you’re reaching the people who you want. You’ll also have the ability to set goals for promotions, so you can tell if your promotion is working as intended. Google also has an automated conversion tracking feature that will tell you how many individuals are converting on each link and what it costs. This feature is optional and requires that you sign up for a paid plan with Google.

If you use a tracker, you must also create custom offers for each campaign that are designed to convert. These offer messages can then be used in conjunction with your banner ads so that you have all of the best targeting features available to your affiliate marketing campaigns.
