Rocket Espresso Appartamento Review — Up Your Coffee Game

Rocket Espresso Appartamento Review

To say the reviews and reception of the Rocket Espresso Appartamento have been good would be a massive understatement. This machine has been so popular, Rocket is having difficulty keeping up with demand for its newest machine.

The main focus of the Appartamento? Size

You won’t need much counter space to accommodate the Appartamento. Thinner and smaller than every other Rocket Espresso model, the Appartamento will not only fit seamlessly on any kitchen countertop, it’ll be the talk of the kitchen. Guaranteed to receive endless compliments, the exterior beauty of this espresso machine is matched only by the quality of espresso it produces.

Before we get into our opinion of the machine, let dig into it’s main features.

E61 Commercial Group Head

Pretty standard on Rocket Espresso Machines. The E61 will ensure stable and consistent temperature throughout use.

Anti-Burn Steam Wand — 2 hole Steam Tip

Beware! Don’t let the name fool you. You still won’t want to touch this thing after use. It’s still relatively hot. Also, definitely don’t touch the E61 at any point while the machine is on or directly after turning the machine off — it’s incredibly hot and stays that way for a while! (Rocket places a Warning sticker on it for safety purposes).

Boiler Pressure Gauge

Conveniently located on the front of the machine, you can track your boilers pressure during use. The Appartamento does not contain a steam pressure gauge.

2 Portafilters Included

The Rocket Espresso Appartamento comes with a single and double portafilter. Bottomless can be purchased separately.

Metal Tamper Included

Most brands only give you poor quality, plastic tampers. Not Rocket. They’ve gone all out and include a Rocket Espresso metal tamper. Great, great quality.

Magnetic Drip Tray

The trip tray, while small (remember this machine was designed to be compact), has magnets installed. What this does is make sure the tray is always fitting flush with the machine to prevent rattling. No other brand does this — very nice, undervalued feature.

2.3 Liter Removable Water Tank

The Rocket Espresso Appartamento is not plumbable. It does, however, come with a large 2.3 liter removable water tank.

1.8 Liter Heat Exchanging Copper Boiler

Heat exchanging (HX) is pretty standard for Rocket Espresso Machines. What this does is allow you to steam milk and brew espresso shots simultaneously. Cool feature but nothing more than a simple time saver.

Compact Design

Everything about the Rocket Appartamento seems a little smaller. So if you’re someone who doesn’t have a ton of space in your kitchen or doesn’t like a single appliance to dominate the room, this machine is perfect for you.

Two Color Options

Using The Rocket Appartamento

First, and I can’t stress this enough, if you’re going to invest in a quality espresso machine, do yourselves a favor and also get a decent coffee grinder. The grind of your beans is essential to making good espresso. Simply spending thousands on a machine won’t do it — they aren’t miracle workers. If you’d like to stick to the Rocket brand — check out the Rocket Fausto Coffee Grinder.

Steaming

The first thing you’ll notice is the immense power. For a machine of this size, the steam pressure is impressive. You’ll be able to steam milk for a latte or cappuccino in mere seconds. If you’re not an experienced barista or have ever had a manual espresso machine before, the Rocket Espresso Appartamento may be the perfect machine for you.

Brewing

Brewing is incredibly simple and easy with any Rocket Espresso Machine and this holds true with the Appartamento. A lever machine, all you need to do is insert the portafilter and lift the lever and out comes the golden nectar.

Conclusion

The Rocket Espresso Appartamento is a beautiful, easy to use home espresso machine. Rocket set out to make a machine with a compact size without sacrificing commercial capabilities — something they’re known for.

Our opinion? They didn’t fail.

You get a lot for such a compact machine. At a price point of $1,500, the Appartamento is by far, in our opinion, the machine that will take you the furthest for the money.
