My Wealth Rules

All around us we constantly hear advice and rules for building wealth. Whether your goal is for financial stability or freedom. Everyone has their own ideas.

Yet there is a problem. At least there seems to be from my perspective. Not all of their money rules are for me. Some rules will either never be for me or will not work for my needs today.

I am NOT an personal finance expert and will always be learning.

Universal Finance Rules

There are some basic wealth rules that I do think are universal to all of us. These are the ones that show up on repeat.

  1. Spend less than you earn.
  2. Save 10% (minimum) of every pay for your future. (From The Richest Man in Babylon). I am actually trying to get to being able to save 50% of my income so I can invest towards achieving my dreams faster.
  3. Use good debt to your advantage. (i.e. mortgage on a rental income)
  4. Own assets and not liabilities.
  5. Never put all of your eggs in one basket. (Don’t risk everything on one investment.)
  6. Understand compound interest.

There could be more. But these 6 rules show up a lot.

My Personal Finance Rules

I have been adding my own finance rules to my life as I learn from others.

  1. It has to add value to my life.
  2. I have to be able to buy it twice (Mostly for purchases under $1000.)
  3. I have to be able to pay it off / handle payments without problem (Large purchases like my vehicle).
  4. Once a large purchase is paid off, I have to keep it until it becomes a liability. (Car repairs become too much/too frequent).
  5. For 2025: only buy what I need. No buying clothing unless necessary, no buying lunch unless I have to.
  6. Invest what I can into my future.
  7. Invest into learning.

Personal Finance Goals I Am Aiming For:

  1. Have an income for every bill.
  2. Have multiple unique sources of income.

These are my personal finance rules for 2025. I’m not an expert. Most of them should be self-explanatory. If you think something will work for you feel free to apply it to your life.

By the way, even though I qualify for payments on my stories I have decided to stop. I want to help those who are like me. Who are on the starting line and need someone to show them it is possible. I want them to have access to stories that can inspire them to keep going. If you are able and wish to support me, you can do so through buymeacoffee.com/cliffviewlife. Thank you. (Yes, I do drink coffee.)
