It’s not easy to accept that our planet is changing rapidly. It’s even harder to accept that our current society and lifestyles will have to change drastically to keep our climate from spiraling out of control. Yet, these are the realities we face. If we bide our time much longer, our beautiful home will be unrecognizable in just a few decades, and we all know how fast time flies.

For the first time in human history, we must all come together to face this great challenge before us. And we do mean everyone — from Boston to Bangladesh. Our world, since humans have first stepped foot onto it, has never known true peace. Tribes, groups, states, nations, and alliances have been at war with one another throughout history — and to this day. But the biggest war is now at each of our doorsteps. Mother Nature, Herself, is now waging war against us since we have spent the last several hundred years waging war against Her in the forms of choking Her with pollution, burning Her forests, detonating Her mountains, melting Her glaciers, and bleaching Her coral.

Is it any wonder She is now exacting revenge on us?

We must fight back, not to destroy Her (as we have been), but rather to save Her so we can save ourselves and all other species that we depend upon for survival. We have most of the tools necessary to do so, and all that is lacking is the urgency for which the crisis demands. As Greta Thunberg, the Swedish climate activist, has said, “We cannot solve a crisis without treating it as a crisis…if solutions within the system are so impossible to find, then maybe we should change the system itself.” Indeed, the systems under which we have grown comfortable with here in the developed world must change as must our lifestyles — but what does that look like? And how do we go from where we are now to where we need to go in a very short time frame?

At Climate Conscious, we will attempt to answer those questions by delving deeply into the solutions to the crisis, but also into the potential drawbacks and obstacles of these solutions that must be carefully considered.

In order for any endeavor to be a success, there must be a vision of what success looks like, so we will work on creating a collective vision together by using a combination of success stories from countries, cities, and towns from around the world and our own imaginations and knowledge for how we can create better systems that result in a much-improved society that takes better care of people and the planet.

We will cover what is required of developed nations to do their part on a political and economic level, since they have contributed to the climate crisis the most and have benefitted at the expense of developing countries who bear the worst effects of climate change. And we will discuss how developed countries can help ease the transition for developing countries and ensure developing countries can adapt to future climate impacts.

We will find that climate change is not an isolated issue, but rather is interconnected to many other issues we face from wealth inequality to racial injustice, and the effects of a changing climate only exacerbate those issues. Thus, by addressing climate change we can ameliorate these other issues in the process.

We will uncover what prevents us psychologically, economically, and politically from making the necessary systemic changes and how we can overcome them through specific actions and activism.

Most of all, we will learn how to become more climate-conscious and ensure that this vision of our collective future is always at the forefront of our minds, rather than an afterthought.
