You’ve probably heard the terms ‘summer of love’ and ‘hot vax summer’ bandied around recently, conjuring up broad visualisations of the 60s and 70s. The aesthetic is firmly back in fashion from interiors to make-up, and it makes perfect sense.

Think about the last year and a half — huge cultural shifts occurred, from a renewed interest in all things craft, puzzles, and baking, to forming activist tribes, to replacing weekend drinks with picnics in nature and talking about social justice and astrology more than ever. Simultaneously, millions of lives have been lost to an invisible threat, redundancies have grown, college kids have officially graduated into a jobless abyss, and climate fears are at all-time high. And Instagram, which welcomed a million micro-influencers with open arms promptly added its shopping feature in confirmation that yes, all culture is for sale. People across every generation have faced over a year of reduced human interaction and touch, yet enhanced feelings of human betrayal, disloyalty, and policing.
