Tree planting can’t offset our emissions, and forests are in big trouble

Trees were supposed to save us, at least if we listened to climate Pollyannas about them. To make ourselves feel better about our long haul international flights we were told to offset our emissions by paying someone to plant a few trees. That hasn’t worked out…
