High Level Citizens Forum On Wastes Reduction And Management

The High-Level Citizens Forum on Waste Reduction and Management in Lagos State took place at the Nigeria Institute for International Affairs (NIIA), Victoria Island, Lagos.

Theme: The Role of the Citizens in Waste Reduction, Protecting the Environment, and Promoting Zero Waste Campaign”

The forum focus on active government/citizens/communities collaboration in waste reduction as a solution to the increasing municipal waste disposal and management challenges in Lagos State.

Our team was present and we were able to understand the need for us as stakeholders and citizens to take responsibility for the Lagos we want.

Key points from the forum:

1. Lagos state should look into policy direction to help communities to manage their waste generated in the neighbourhood. — Ambassador Obuesi Philips

4. We need to bring entertainment into promoting and advocating for Waste management in Lagos state and that is what we are looking at in LAWMA. — Dr. Muyiwa Gbadegesin
5. Sustainable waste solutions without the citizens cannot be achieved because this establishes a connection between the govt, citizen and the environment- NOA representative.
6. There would be the introduction of 1st lady’s marshal; an NGO birthed to champion the cause for a cleaner Lagos through intense advocacy and partnership. Amb. Obuesi Philip
