Microsoft Nigeria & The Future Project Trained Social Workers at #AI4GOOD Conference in Lagos

AI4Good conference held on the 19th of September in Lagos state with different leaders working on developmental issues across Nigeria. Our Director of Youth Azeezat Yishawu was also in attendance.

The conference had over 40 participants form different institution such as climate change, agriculture and empowerment programs.

The conference had two sessions

The first session held by DARA OLADAPO (customer success engineer from Microsoft)

The session discussed what Artificially Intelligence (AI) was about, advantages and advancements, Including speech recognition, face recognition, logic application and AI tools and services.

The second session by YEMI ORIMOLADE (Philanthropy lead, Microsoft)

The session discussed what Microsoft AI4Good initiative was about.

The initiate is a $125 million grant, towards ideas and projects using AI in solving problems in selected core areas for Microsoft

· AI for Earth (grant worth$ 50 million) with target: Agriculture, Water, Biodiversity, Climate Change

· AI for Accessibility (grant worth $25 million) with target: Employability, Daily Life, Communications and Connections

· AI for culture and Heritage (grant worth $10 million) with target: People, Places, Language, Historical, artefact

· AI for Humanitarian Action (grant worth $ 40 million) with target: Disaster Response, Refugee and displaced people, Human Rights, Needs for Children

CONCLUSION

By 2050, Africa will contain 50% of the world youth population, that is half of the world working population. The advancement of technology and Artificial intelligence will see to the creation of 173 million jobs and the loss of 75 million conventional jobs by 2022 (world economic forum). There will only be job opportunities for young people who are Tech ready.

RECOMMENDATION

· ICCDI in our quest for climate change literacy, include education of people living with disabilities by leveraging on AI

· ICCDI develop a data base for climate change event in Nigeria and Africa for research and reference purpose.

· Partner with individual / similar organizations to access available grant for climate change.
