8 Unforgettable Pictures From the Annual Psychopharmacology Congress (Coming Back Nov. 3–6, 2016!)

Stephen Stahl is the rockstar of psychopharmacology, and I got to meet him at the Psychopharmacology Congress in Colorado Springs, CO. Giddy with excitement, I approached him in the exhibit hall and asked him to sign my copy of Stahl’s Essential Psychopharmacology.

Dr. Stahl is a psychiatrist and professor of psychiatry at the University of California, San Diego. He is most well-known for his cartoonish drawings of psychopharmacological actions and hilarious parody Youtube videos (watch: DSM-5 Fever). His textbooks are used across the country in psychiatric residencies (my favorite is Stahl’s Essential Psychopharmacology Case Studies), and his name is widely respected within the psychiatric community.

In 2000, he founded the Neuroscience Education Institute (NEI), a continuing-education company that focuses on evidence-based treatment for psychiatric conditions. This company welcomes all healthcare professionals, including NPs and PAs.

The NEI offers a Master Psychopharmacology Program that includes hours of in-depth education on effective prescribing strategies, and, upon completion, students receive the special designation of master psychopharmacologist. The Institute also publishes a peer-reviewed journal called CNS Spectrums, which I personally love!

Every year, NEI hosts a Psychopharmacology Congress in Colorado Springs attracting more than 4,000 attendees with diverse backgrounds. I attended in November 2013 with a close friend of mine, and we had a blast!
