Da Vinci Robot - Breakthrough in Robotic Surgery
A knowledgeable seminar on Robotic Surgery was organized by ClinicSpots in collaboration with Fortis Hospital, Mulund, Mumbai on 7th August 2019.
Fortis Hospital, Mulund is a JCI accredited, tertiary care hospital providing a range of diagnostic and treatment services.
The event was taken forward by Dr. Anil Heroor. He is a practicing Surgical Oncologist with 25 years of experience. He gave a brief seminar on the Da Vinci Robot, explaining how it makes complex surgeries more efficient and easy to perform.
The seminar was about how robotic surgery is a better option for colorectal surgery. The audience gained knowledge about the advantages of robotic surgery over current and older methods.
Robotic surgery is a type of surgical procedure that is done using robotic systems. The robotically controlled instruments work like a wrist. These controls are very powerful and precise. It is enabled for a greater degree of freedom of movement.
Robotic surgery has 3 advantages which help while operating:
1. 3D high-definition view of the surgical area.
2. 7 degrees of motion freedom.
3. High-precision control.
Robotic Surgery has an upper hand, of endowristed instruments that provide greater precision. Some surgeries require precise dissection and suturing and with the help of Robotic surgery, it is performed in a much better way.
Further, Robotic surgery has resulted in improved patient outcomes with minimal pain and scars. It is believed that the fewer the stitches, the minimal is the pain. Patients get an early discharge and can start a normal life sooner.
The vision of Robotic surgery continues further. Though the Da Vinci Robot is quite advanced and efficient than the previously available methods, there is surely scope for future enhancements in the procedure. The surgery can become more efficient with the implementation of the following –

2. Artificial Intelligence
