Studies from the IDC have found some interesting things about how knowledge workers spend their time:

Knowledge workers spend from 15% to 35% of their time searching for information.

This is a lot of time and money, but once you think about it, these statistics make a lot of sense and could be a great thing for your company.

If your employees are spending time reading about new ideas, learning about new technology, and sharing that information with colleagues, they can find innovative ways to improve your business; and that’s a great sign for your company’s future.

In today’s fast paced business climate it’s critical people at every level of your organization are finding time for education and thinking about how your company can stay ahead of the curve, because if they’re not you can be assured a smarter, more agile competitor is.

Here’s a hypothetical example to add some context to this analysis:

Steve is a great enterprise salesman on a team of 10 selling HR software to medium sized businesses.

The team typically spends half their days scouting new leads and half working through their pipelines, but last year a new lead-gen tool was introduced that gives the team more than enough leads to call.

Steve and his team now feel like they have an extra four hours each day and they decide to dedicate two of those hours to researching and learning about their industry, their clients, the latest HR trends, and new sales tactics.

This knowledge increases their collective close rates by 25% and makes them one of the most knowledgeable, nimble, and innovative teams in the industry.

They earn the respect of their clients and start actively contributing product ideas and feedback that gives their company a huge technology lead over competitors.

This situation is not only realistic, but likely already taking place in your industry in some form.

The question is, is your team going through the motions or are they continuously learning to work smarter and better position your company’s product(s) for the future?

This is a question we’re asked at Cliption to help address every day across every industry (healthcare, law, marketing, technology, design, etc) and every position (sales, engineering, operations, customer service, etc).

We wanted to build a tool that encourages employees to research their industry, learn about the latest technology and trends, improved their skill-sets, and share that knowledge seamlessly with their team.
