The summer before college is truly the time to live your best life, unwind from stress and make the most of your time before dedicating yourself to the college lifestyle. To help you make the best of your summer before college, here are eight tips for you.

1. Spend time with your friends and family: It’s important to try and spend as much time with your friends and family as possible. Once you get to college, you’ll definitely have moments of homesickness especially if you move far away.. Enjoy the moments with your family and friends this summer and make the most of it!

2. Planning For College Is Essential: Although you’re supposed to be enjoying your summer and living your best life, making sure you have everything sorted out for August when you move-into college is very important. Your college is probably sending out important emails, be sure to check those out and stay on top of everything your school has for you to do over the summer.

3. Get a summer job: Thousands of places are hiring and it’s the best way to make some extra cash before heading out to school. It can be anything from being a lifeguard, babysitting, or working in a retail store. Get yourself some summer money!

4. Read. Read. Read!: Even though it’s summer, it’s important to keep your brain busy and active. Once you get to college, you’ll have a lot of material to read and after not reading for some time, you tend to get lazy and leave the important material that you’re supposed to read in-depth for a test or project. Continuous reading is good for the brain and it’ll be a lifesaver once you get to college.

5. Connect with your future roommate: You’ll find out your rooming assignments about a month before you go to college and if you went for a random assignment, it’s crucial that you connect with your roommate. Get to know each other and try and sort out who’s bringing what. You don’t wanna end up both moving into your double room and you both bring a mini-fridge and microwave. You probably don’t have space for that so it’s important to communicate.

6. Be realistic with what you pack: You may be moving away from home but that doesn’t mean you should take your whole closet with you to college. Go through your closet and be realistic with your choices. If you haven’t worn a particular shirt in months or maybe even years, you definitely won’t be wearing it at college. Additionally, if it works out for you this way, when you go home for the holidays you can drop clothes off and bring more. Whatever works for you.

7. Be smart with buying textbooks: I know hundreds of people who buy the textbooks for their classes before getting to school and immediately regretted it. There are cheaper alternatives than your school's bookstore and you’ll save hundreds of dollars. Just do your research. Also, If you’re lucky, your professor may give you the PDF file of the textbook (if they wrote it).

8. Enjoy your freedom and have fun: College is a fun time but your main reason for being there is to get an education and it can get really hectic. You’ll definitely have fun but there’s a balance of living your best life and making sure you’re doing your work. Enjoy this summer before college hits you hard.
