My name’s Andrea, and I’m the Marketing & Promotion Coordinator and resident Gen Z-er here at Closer&Closer. I’ve done marketing for a lot of different individuals and companies, and I’ve learned a thing or two about the best ways to promote yourself digitally. Below are some of my best practices for creating sustainable growth on your socials and putting yourself in the best position to be seen by clients and consumers alike.

Post Consistently

I know, I know, you’re all rolling your eyes and about to click out of this post, but this really is the #1 tip I can give. The fact of the matter is that your posts (especially on Instagram) are only shown to a fraction of your followers, and the algorithms these sites have nowadays are brutal. We normally recommend to our artists that they post 3 to 5 times a week, but this all depends on what lane you’re in. Are you trying to be an influencer? Post at least once a day. Are you a business? You can get away with posting a little less often. The baseline should be 3 times a week, though, regardless of what you’re aiming for.

Behance or Dribbble?

If you’re an artist, illustrator, letterer, designer, etc., you should definitely be on one of these two platforms. Behance and Dribbble are more niche than Instagram and specifically made for art and design, so you know potential clients are scouring every corner of these sites to find talent to work with. I think of Dribbble as Instagram’s older, more professional cousin. Everything you post on there should be completed work, and posting multiple times a week is key. Behance is the most polished and requires less consistency (I recommend posting like once a month) but more thought. Projects that perform well on Behance are full of context, from sketches to descriptive paragraphs to mockups (Rafael Varona is a great example of this, check his stuff out for post inspiration). Pick your favorite and run with it.

Email Isn’t Dead

I know it’s easy to forget about email, but it is such a powerful marketing tool. The email will never go away, even as social media sites take off and become obsolete. Especially now in the age of COVID, email is the best way to connect with people on a personal level. Whether it’s sending out monthly new work emails to past and potential clients or sharing weekly tips as to how your services could better their lives, you can really make this your own and get as creative as you’d like.
