Injustice Everywhere

We’ve been here before. We know where we’re at all too well.

White men have enjoyed every shot at absolution and grace in our nation for centuries, while the majority of our nation’s people figure out how to live with the expectation that our basic constitutional rights, if not our very lives, have been and will be discarded on a routine basis. Today was no different.

Whether you call our justice system broken or functioning exactly as designed, it’s clear we have a long way to go before it’s meting out equal protection or consequence under the law.

We must hear and FEEL the words of our brothers and sisters from yesterday, today, and tomorrow because they will help us see the truth to take action.

Women have a role to play here. Even in the Rittenhouse trial, where the judge, victims and perpetrator are male, women made up the majority of jurors: the unanimous outcome highlights the role we ALL have to play in overturning white supremacy and transforming our justice system.

Organizers, candidates and community activists — many of whom are women of color — face an increased risk today of emboldened, racist violence, intimidation and harassment, which will only get worse because of today’s verdict.

We can’t stop working to build the pipeline of diverse, resilient women leaders who understand the urgency of transforming our systems, and bring community-based expertise in how we can succeed.
