As Co-Founder and EVP of Customer Success here at CloudHealth Technologies, I get to work with a lot of our customers on a daily basis. We are always working to manage and optimize their environments so they can get the most from their resources. And over the last 3 years, we have seen our customer base evolve with the market, from SaaS companies born in the cloud, to traditional enterprises building out large production infrastructures. One recent favorite moment took place last week, when I was reviewing some of our operating stats and saw that we were managing over a million active* AWS instances for our customers and partners. It’s such great validation, that I just had to pause and smile. We must be doing something right here!

I think that one of the primary reasons why our customers embrace CloudHealth is because we take a comprehensive approach to understanding their infrastructure — from cost, to performance, to security — and wrap that together with an integrated policy engine and strong automation capabilities.

Our customers are using CloudHealth to run their production environments (and these are not small environments — we’re talking about some of the biggest cloud users in the world!), with over 2,500 policies being evaluated every day, driving over 28,000 automated actions per month, which includes everything from modifying RIs on the fly, to flagging and terminating underutilized assets, or “zombie” infrastructure. We have customers that spin up over 3,000 instances a day and terminate just as many, all in a day’s work. When you think about the number of actions and the amount of data required to intelligently manage all of this activity, it is pretty amazing. This is what Joe Kinsella, our CTO and Founder, had in mind when he outlined his vision of a software platform that would enable true cloud governance.

The cloud is evolving rapidly, and increasingly, our customers are asking how they stack up against their industry peers. Through years of tackling some of the biggest challenges in cloud computing, the CloudHealth team has gathered a wide variety of best practices for managing the cloud. These best practices merge enterprise governance strategies/lessons learned from the growth of data centers and distributed computing, with what we now know about the dynamic properties of the cloud.

Working with the CEOs, CTOs and CFOs at leading cloud companies has provided great insight into common governance challenges. We have been working closely with our customers to define cloud-based governance (see our blogs on Ziff Davis and News UK) and this has led us to roll out professional services focused on helping customers roll out the policies and implementations they need in order to be successful. As we continue to enable our customers through use-case based training and the best customer success teams in the industry, I know that we’ll have 10 Million active instances under management before we know it! So if you’re looking to capitalize on the benefits of the cloud, and need a hand getting there, don’t be afraid to reach out! @Dave_Eicher, or info@cloudhealthtech.com .

* Note that I’m referring explicitly to active instances. If you were to look at the total number of instances that we have optimized over the years, that number would be well over 300 million.
