Summer is approaching, which means it’s time for family vacation. This year, I convinced my family to visit the happiest place on Earth. No, not Disney World. AWS us-east-1. Wedged between the strip malls and retirement communities of Northern Virginia, you will find the famous us-east-1. Like Disney, the locale offers many different attractions, such as us-east-1a, us-east-1b, us-east-1c, us-east-1d, and us-east-1e (note: Availability Zones will vary by vacationer). Yesterday, we were lucky enough to catch the arrival of a delivery truck going into one of the non-descript buildings. “Look at that Dad!” my son said. “Son, that might be your I-730d45e9 instance one day (or I-730d45e9dd66b9b07 if you are using the new instance id format),” I told him proudly. We also took a holiday photo by the town sign for Sterling with the caption, “Standing on the ground through which 70% of the world’s internet traffic flows.” And here is the best part: for reasons I cannot explain, the hotels — all nine of them — are really really cheap.

But enough about paradise, let’s get started with our week in review.
