Today, I am excited to announce that we are releasing the V7 of the Cloudimage API for image resizing, compression, CDN acceleration and much more!

The whole Cloudimage Team worked very hard over the last 3 months to implement all the feature requests and edge cases (thank you PNG and PDF…) in the newest version of Cloudimage: the V7.

What is changing?

With the current V6 of the Cloudimage API, you were resizing images by implementing the following URL format in your <img> tags:

For example: //demo.cloudimg.io/width/500/fgrey/sample.li/flat.jpg

The V7 introduces the following new format:

The image above becomes:

//demo.cloudimg.io/v7/sample.li/flat.jpg?w=500&f=grey

Why is the V7 better?

We have implemented the latest image processing algorithms in the V7 and have worked on improving scalability and performance to accelerate your images even more than with the V6.

We are also introducing our new Machine Learning-based JPEG re-compression algorithm Optipress. More info will come in a separate article but Optipress’ goal is to reduce the file size of your JPEG images by 30% on average without any visible quality loss.

Do I need to migrate to V7?

Don’t worry, we are not forcing you to migrate to the V7, but we will introduce new features mainly in the V7 going forward. So if you want to take advantage of the latest and greatest from Cloudimage, feel free to migrate!
