Solving the Smart Meter Firmware Conundrum

In my previous article, I described the firmware issue that threatens installed smart meters across the UK. A problem is often an opportunity, of course, and I’m now happy to announce that CloudKB — has found a way to monitor and report on meter firmware versions.

We’ve developed a module for our uMESH platform that automatically tracks and reports on the firmware for any smart meters with a DCC status. The data will be of interest to Suppliers and Meter Asset Providers (MAPs) tracking the status of their meter portfolios.

How it works

Give uMESH a portfolio of meters and we’ll run regular checks to determine the firmware version and compare it automatically to the DCC recommended versions. This will also report back on the firmware expiry date on the CPL, so you know just how long you have before you need to upgrade the firmware to prevent the risk of your meter going dark.

Better still, in addition to the firmware data, the uMESH report will include a host of additional information that will be of value to both Suppliers and MAPs.

The benefits

Suppliers are responsible for ensuring meter firmware is updated, so a report that highlights expiry dates is obviously crucial.

And for MAP, an insight into both the status and location (in the sense of MPRN or MPAN) of one of their meters is information that can serve to validate or improve their billing data.

Get in touch with me now — using the details in my bio — to run a report based on a sample of your portfolio and to discover how useful this data can be.
