Vietnam has set an ambitious goal of achieving 100% smartphone usage by the end of 2024. Capital investments, such as the establishment of Alibaba’s local data center and Viettel Group’s latest deal on the Vietnam-Singapore (VTS) cable, bolstering the country’s international connection infrastructure.

Moreover, as part of the country’s digital strategy, the Ministry of Information and Communications recently announced plans to shut down 2G/3G networks in order to free up spectrum for 4G/5G networks. However, this move to sunset such networks will impact 38 million subscribers.

The effort to embrace digital growth is not without its challenges. Millions of Vietnamese citizens face economic constraints, making the transition to 4G and 5G difficult. For many, it isn’t merely a question of upgrading to the latest device — but whether they can afford to stay connected at all.

Connecting communities through our partnership with Viettel

Viettel, a dominant player in Vietnam’s telecom market and a state-owned enterprise, plays a pivotal role in advancing the country’s digital agenda. Recognizing diverse mobile user needs, we partnered with Viettel to introduce Cloud Phone-enabled feature phones at an affordable entry point. The response was remarkable: a 40% increase in feature phone sales, enabling us to narrow the gap between those who can afford the latest technology and those who cannot. By putting a device in the hands of underserved communities, we are not only empowering millions of people to participate in the digital economy but also increasing access to educational resources, connecting them with opportunities that would otherwise be out of reach.

Supporting Vietnam’s digital transformation goals

With the government’s goal of implementing nationwide 5G by 2030, our Cloud Phone innovation challenges traditional views of feature phones. It grants access to the internet and other digital resources, ensuring that nobody gets left behind in the global digitalization wave.

Our partnership with Viettel is not just a commercial success but a clear indication of the demand for affordable technology solutions. As Vietnam continues to push towards a fully digital future, practical, accessibility matters. Bridging the digital divide requires not only lofty goals but also solutions that meet people where they are.

Empowering partnerships to enhance connectivity

Partnerships remain a vital part of unlocking Vietnam’s potential. Beyond affordability, we are also collaborating with telco companies to enhance connection speeds and expand widgets and feature offerings.

As the country’s digital economy continues to grow, Cloud Phone provides an affordable solution, keeping consumers in step with these sweeping changes.

We are proud to be leading this revolution in the mobile industry and the signs are bright from our partnership with Viettel. By bridging the gap between the limitations of traditional feature phones and affordable smartphones, we are unlocking a digital future for millions of Vietnamese.
