Three New Executives Join Our Mission to Improve Lives
At Clover, we put our members at the center of everything we do. Whether it’s the way we deliver an exceptional member experience through our care management teams or how we use data analytics and technology to determine the best way to deliver that care, we are working to fulfill our mission of improving lives.
It’s essential to our culture that we hire people who are mission-driven and aligned with our vision of transforming health insurance through proactive and preventive care, and that starts at the top.
Late last year, we began the search for three new executives who would shape our business strategy in profound ways — a CTO, CFO and COO. When we started the search, I had a list of traits I felt were necessary to make one successful at Clover: strong business instincts, deep curiosity, extensive leadership experience, and a passion for our mission.
I imagined it would take us a long time to be able to find the right leaders for these positions; after all, it’s an ambitious undertaking to hire for three high-level positions at once. To my great delight, the right people found their way to us in short order and I am pleased to announce today that we’ve brought on Andrew Toy as our CTO, Varsha Rao as our COO, and Pritam Baxi as our CFO.
Andrew joins us from Google, where he coordinated enterprise activities for the Android team and ran Machine Learning, Enterprise Search and Analytics for the G-Suite team. A seasoned entrepreneur himself, Andrew was the CEO and co-founder of Divide, a company focused on creating a split between work and personal data on mobile devices, which was acquired by Google in 2014. At Clover, he will be focused on the growth and expansion of Clover’s Engineering and Product teams and the continued development of Clover’s data analytics and technology platform.
This is a particularly exciting time for us to welcome a new CTO as we are in the process of expanding Clover’s Engineering team to New Jersey. Our technology platform aggregates member data and identifies when someone is in need of care, and informs our clinical teams to provide direct intervention. Growing a team of engineers in New Jersey, where we have most of our clinical team, allows us to develop even tighter feedback loops between the people creating the technology and those using it.
Varsha joined us in September and has quickly become an invaluable member of our team by ensuring operational excellence across Clover’s core insurance business and overseeing the Member Experience and Growth teams. She was formerly the head of Global Operations at Airbnb, where she managed vacation rentals, supplier growth, and market expansion around the world, including the company’s growth initiative in Asia. She also oversaw the company’s focus on trust and safety, and customer experience. Having someone like her who has extensive experience in developing global operations with a focus on delighting customers is an incredible asset to us as we look to scale Clover across multiple markets while earning our members’ trust and approval.
Last, but certainly not least, Pritam will help Clover scale responsibly and ensure we continue to offer our members the best benefits while keeping costs low. He spent the last three years of his career at Sears Holdings, where he managed multiple teams across finance, member experience and operations. Prior to Sears, he spent 15 years at Amazon where he was instrumental in helping to manage the Worldwide Operations Finance function and North American logistics for the company during its time of rapid growth. Pritam will undoubtedly have a major impact on our logistical operations at Clover and drive even greater efficiencies across the organization for the benefit our members and providers.
Each of these new executives has an impressive background, having spent time at some of the most innovative and disruptive companies of this decade. However, I’m more excited about who they are as people and the positive impact they will have at Clover in service of our members and providers.
