#WEOC had our second great chat on the ClubhouseApp and it was amazing! The discussion was moderated by Adrienne Samuels Gibbs, writer and Deputy Editor of Zora and Momentum and Allison Gaines, writer and editor of Cultured and me, Tee, Conscious Creative, writer and editor of Conscious Creatives and #ClubhouseAppRecap.
Last Sunday’s meeting was special. We hosted our first guest speaker and welcomed some surprise guests who slid through and brought their crew along for the ride.
Allison Gaines, Adrienne Samuels Gibbs, and myself, Tee, Conscious Creative hosted an extra special #WEOC chat with Clay Rivers. Clay is the editor and director of the Medium publication and nonprofit organization of the same name Our Human Family (OHF), with respective taglines of “Achieving Equality and “Love one another”. He also discussed his new anthology, Fieldnotes on Allyship written by several Medium writers.
All of our discussions have been great so far…
The moderators: Dr. Aparajita (Dr. AJ), Dr. Bryan Hotchkins, and Berhenda facilitated a deeply moving and highly emotional discussion about racial battle fatigue. People from various ethnic, cultural backgrounds and identities shared how self and perceived racial identity has impacted their lives; and the emotional and psychological toll of being a minority or “other”. A lot of topics were covered from imposter syndrome to identity politics, solidarity, and the struggle and sacrifices made when some of us advocate for ourselves and others.
The conversation was cathartic, highly informative and reminded us we are not alone…The next topic that might be…

I was invited to join Clubhouse a week ago and I like it. Since then, I’ve visited several Clubhouse rooms, but I’ve only participated in conversations about entrepreneurship and writing. The Writing Community discussion hosted and moderated by Shaka Senghor and Julie Wenah was amazing and helped me understand the positive impact and need for a voice-based platform and discussions like this.
I’m not tech savvy nor big on social media. However, if I — a Gen X, WOC and educator turned writer and entrepreneur with a start-up consultancy can join discussions and walk away…
