Today we’re proud to announce the release of Cluster 2.0 for iOS and Android, the result of a year of user insights, months of hands-on user testing, and a changing landscape in social sharing.

We added tons of new features to Cluster with this release: You can now post videos and notes to group spaces, and we crafted a beautiful new experience for iPad and Android tablets.

We also completely redesigned Cluster to focus exclusively on private group sharing, a dynamic we believe is the future of social networking.

New Features

Cluster 2.0 is packed with some significant upgrades, including support for tablets and new ways to share that we’re very excited about.

Tablets

Since we launched in early 2013, Cluster users have consistently asked for the ability to follow along with their favorite spaces on iPad and Android tablets. Families and friends share amazing photos with each other, and they want a better way to participate than on their phone or computer.

With Cluster 2.0, you can see all your memories in a larger format and quickly navigate between your spaces on the same screen — right from your iPad or Android tablet.

Video

Photos are wonderful, but sometimes they just don’t capture the full experience of a special moment. With Cluster 2.0, anyone in your small group can share and enjoy short videos of your favorite memories.

Notes

A picture is worth a thousand words — but sometimes there’s something you have to communicate, or a quote you need to remember, that you might not be able to represent with a photo.

Our users have been centralizing more and more of their group interaction in Cluster spaces, and they’ve started asking for a way to post messages to each other — separately from commenting on photos. The first step in this direction is the addition of Notes; look for it next time you go to add a photo to a space.

Private Group Sharing

When we launched Cluster, we initially built it to consolidate photos after a shared experience, such as a vacation or a wedding. Almost immediately, we started seeing users take what we’d built and bend it in different and unexpected ways. One of the most interesting uses that emerged was ongoing private group sharing.

We’ve seen some incredible private groups develop around new parents, who create an album and invite just their close family members to see a child grow up day by day. We’ve also seen college students — especially fraternity and sorority members — share hundreds of photos that might not be appropriate for more public social networks like Facebook.

So with Cluster 2.0, we decided to focus entirely on private group sharing.

Remember Who You’re Sharing With

When you’re posting to a small group, sometimes it’s nice to be reminded of exactly who those people are. You should never have to wonder who will see the content you’re about to share. In Cluster 2.0, when you post something new, the app lets you know who will be able to see it.

See Who’s Seen Your Posts

Once your post hits the feed, you’ll see avatars for everyone in the group below what you just shared. These avatars will let you know who’s seen it and who’s liked it — and only the people shown in this list can see what you just posted. Not sure who someone is? Just tap their face and it’ll open their profile.

We’ve made hundreds of other tweaks to improve your experience using Cluster, and we can’t wait to see what everyone thinks of the new version. We welcome your feedback and look forward to continuing to make it an amazing place for small groups to share! Download for iPhone/iPad or Android now!
