Last September, we announced that CMDTY had raised Series A financing. Here’s how we described the company at the time:

As we talked about our mission — to make physical commodities as efficient as possible — we thought to ourselves, why not start with the word ‘commodity’ itself? We shortened it to CMDTY (but still pronounce it like commodity!) and our company was born. Our mission is to use technology to streamline the physical commodities supply chain; help participants optimize their activities; and to find global efficiencies through data science and technology. Our first product, a trading and logistics platform, will help commodities companies streamline their operations and reduce their costs of execution.

Looking back on that paragraph, it’s amazing to see how far we’ve come and how much we’ve learned along the way. Our first product evolved into a buying platform for industrial metals, giving large manufacturers greater visibility and understanding into all aspects of how they source, manage, and finance raw materials. We discovered that efficiency is important, but so is collaboration. In addition, while we do facilitate buying, selling, transporting, and trading commodities, our clients want to use our platform for other materials that aren’t as commoditized.

Over the past year, we’ve evolved how we think about what we do. We’ve realized that the global supply chain impacts all sides of commerce and life, all around the world. Our platform makes supply chains more resilient, more sustainable, more collaborative, and more effective. We help our customers find new ways to buy, sell, transport, and finance. By making supply chains better, we build a bridge to a better world.

With this expanded vision for the company, it’s time for a more expansive name — and this time, we paid for the vowels! A name that reflects our ambition and our creativity; that underscores our commitment to connect and empower; that is grounded in the real world and inspired by science and technology.

We are Waybridge.
