The three pieces we read centered around how humans build or make new environments or objects that influences the way we see and interact with the world. Being never satisfied we continually customize our environments and belongings into what we want them to be. Then through use, we recreate or make a new environments and objects based on our new perspective and taste.

My quick digram sketch of how the iterative use process works

In The Netherlands there is a term Ongemeubileerd which translated directly mean without furnishings. This word is related to the state of a home or apartment that you are renting or buying. As a default expectation this term is legally meant that all the stuff and non-structural elements are removed (light fixtures, wall coverings, paint, floor coverings, appliances, plumbing fixtures, furniture, etc) from a dwelling before moving out. While this can be annoying for others bask in the freedom of a blank slate as a canvas to create the feeling and interactions suitable to them self.

As designers we need to consider the scale of interaction and how what we make will exist within the ecosystem of an individual’s life, just as ubiquitous computing seeks to create seamless experiences between technology.

As an interaction designer, we have the right to lay a stake in the ground and create the space, symbols, and interactions that make up an experience but we cannot control user actions. In addition, the most delightful interactions may be when users are allowed to generate and customize their experience.

Just like Band-aid or AirBnB the interaction or style could become degraded as copy cats jump in the market and your name or style become the standard. Then, current design becomes bad design and seeks to reinvent itself to be different and fresh yet again.
