Interaction Design defined
Interaction design is a series of actions and reactions
Interaction design (IxD) is the art of pairing the appropriate outcome(s) to a given input or inputs. The object, service, technology, organization, social script, culture, or good may entice one to make an action (or input) but without a decision to engage, there is no result.
Interaction designers are facilitators of interaction. They utilize tools to understand non-linear systems and create more human-centered, intuitive, and delightful interactions.
Components
For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. – Sir Newton’s third law of motion
Just as Newton’s Third Law of motion applies to physics, IxD is a series of actions with equal reactions. An IxD designer works to pair a user’s input with an intended result. The result may be immediate, delayed, amplified, or diminished but once experienced the reactive force (or force pattern) is revealed. When a designer integrates animations, color, typography, state changes and other methods to indicate a change has occurred is only a by-product.
Biochemical reactions are the transformation of one molecule into another molecule [or multiple molecules]. — nature.com
Biochemistry has illustrated that every reaction starts with material that already exists. Through exposure of one molecule to another a reaction occurs that yields a new unique product/molecule or multiple products. This interaction may or may not be reversable. An interaction’s success is improved by using a catalyst to assist the reaction arrives at the desired state.
By allowing an individual to interact with our design a unique result appears. Persuasion is uesed to overcome obstacles, in order reach a desired state.
