• A devastating hurricane is approaching Texas. Severe flooding and winds of up to 111 mph could cause $40 billion in home damages along the Texas coast.
• Harvey threatens Texas’s Gulf Coast, the heart of America’s energy sector. Several key refineries — where oil is turned into gasoline, diesel and other products — have shut down temporarily.
• You might feel the impact of these closings at the pump. Drivers in the South, Southeast and mid-Atlantic could see the cost of a gallon jump five to 15 cents.

Samsung chief gets five years in prison.

• Lee Jae-yong, the chief executive of Samsung, was found guilty of bribery and corruption charges in South Korea.
• South Korea’s “trial of the century” gripped the country and was part of a major scandal that brought down the country’s president.
• Samsung is a major force in South Korea. It accounts for an estimated 15% of the country’s entire economy.

‘Science Guy’ Bill Nye says Disney owes him $9 million.

• America’s favorite science teacher Bill Nye is suing Disney, alleging the media giant owes him $9 million in profits from his show “Bill Nye the Science Guy.” Nye is accusing Disney of fraud and breach of contract.
• Kids fell in love with Nye’s fun, science-focused show, which originally aired from 1992 to 1997. You can still catch it on Netflix.
