Daily Rewind: Health care failure
Republican efforts to repeal Obamacare without replacing it failed today after three Republican Senators said they wouldnât vote for a repeal-only bill. Itâs the latest blow for the GOP, which failed to get enough votes for its revised health care bill last night. Hereâs what you should know:
- Senators Lisa Murkowski (R-AK), Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV) and Susan Collins (R-ME) said they wonât vote for a bill that rolls back Obamacare without a replacement plan. The bill can only afford to lose two votes to pass.
- Despite the lack of support, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell says he wants to hold a repeal-only vote âin the very near future.â President Trump says his plan is âto let Obamacare fail and then the Democrats are going to come to us.â
- McConnell advocated for a repeal-only solution after Senators Jerry Moran (R-KS) and Mike Lee (R-UT) announced they wouldnât vote for the Senateâs revised health care bill last night. Rand Paul (R-KY) and Susan Collins (R-ME) had previously said they would vote against it.
- Wall Street is worried the Senate billâs failure is a sign the Trump administration wonât be able to pass anything. The dollar slumped to a 10-month low this morning following the billâs collapse.
