What is a “Long shadow”?

> The long shadow is the object blending technique used to make the object/text getting more attractive to the people. This technique can be applied ways to create your artwork so you can make an extraordinary one!!

Let’s do it!!

1. Create the artboard with the square shape as a background(Any color(s) you wants).

  • This blog used 300 x 300 px of both artboard and background

2. Create an object/text and put it on the background layer.

3. Copy the object/text 2 times(you need to have three of them).

  • You can Ctrl+c then Ctrl+p or just press the Alt button on your keyboard then drag and drop the object/text that you want to copy.
  • Two of them have to be an exactly the same position another one will be used as the destination of the shadow.

4. Start to config the shadow!!!

  • Clicks on an “Object” button in the menu bar.
  • Mouses on “Blend”.
  • Selects “Blend Options”.
  • Configs the value of it as below.

5. Start to create the shadow!!!

  • Select two objects which have a different position.
  • Clicks on an “Object” button in the menu bar.
  • Mouses on “Blend”.
  • Selects “Make” or you can just simply use the “Ctrl+Alt+B” to create the shadow.
  • After that, you are expected to get something like the picture below.
  • Now, you got a shadow layers name “blend”.
  • You can also change the color and position via this layer too.
  • Such as the picture below.

6. Export.

  • When you exporting this artwork make sure you have checked on the “Use Artboards” to prevent an unexpected area outside the artboard.
  • The final artwork will look like the picture below.
