Day 5 — The Power of Reflection

Welcome to The Journey of My First Book, a series of stories documenting the publication process of my first book.

Morning. I started the day taking care of a few urgent tasks, which meant that I delayed the writing until 10.00 am. A few minutes in, I remembered that the bedsheets need changing…of course they do. And so I stripped the bed, put a load of washing on and I’m back here, writing, at 10.20.
The weekend gave me a chance to reflect on what I’ve been doing so far and how it all fits together. On my previous writing day, I was trying to decide on what method to adopt for a certain part of the book. Because I couldn’t make up my mind, I skipped that part last week.
My reflection over the weekend means that I can now go back to that part and approach it from a perspective that wasn’t something I had considered when planning the book. It involves a few more calculations on my part, but less work on the readers’ side which is a bonus. A bonus for me too, as I love using numbers and data to illustrate a point.
It is this particular part of the book that I plan to tackle today, although I’m not sure I’ll need 2,000 words to explain it. The less, the better, so I…
