#Coalitions4GOOD is a movement that has been long born in the hearts of the Blockchain Community. This time around, it has a name and structure that realizes the power of a united force.

We have already seen the collaborative efforts through Blockchain Consortia where the nature of the Blockchain technology encourages executives and entrepreneurs to overcome the competition effect and instead Cooperate by finding value in the exchange of like-minded competitors to better leverage the benefits of the technology for all.

While this practice is well in place in the commercial, profit-driven world; it is still not a common practice in the Impact Space. One could only imagine the powerful effects that strong Coalitions could offer in support of accelerated development of social impact applications that can positively serve humanity.

Impact projects, for the most part, start with an uphill battle to fight. It is not uncommon to find great concepts on stealth mode and in the shadows of success. There are many ways in which we can turn the tables around and shed some light to increase the likelihood of these projects to succeed.

#Coalitions4GOOD are here to change that!

b4H, Positive Blockchain, Gustavo Segovia Design Thinker, The Bounties Network, RSK, Shelpin, Alice, SlaveFreeTrade, BC4GOOD Crypto Valley, DappNode, ETHDenver, BitArt, Iden3, S.A.I. Charity, CriptoConserje are some of the like-minded Supporters of this movement. We all have a common vision for a better world by developing, educating and designing applications that aim at serving a greater purpose and sustainable goals. Our first assembly, as a coordinated movement took place at the web3summit in Berlin, this past August 2019.

The #Coalitions4GOOD node had 3 buzzing days with a continuous flow of visitors and contributors. We engaged in multiple roundtable discussions sparked by The Global Hack technical challenges, organized by Positive Blockchain.

The Global Hack encouraged blockchain with impact projects to share their technical challenges with node participants seeking to connect multi-disciplinary contributors to solutions that can help mitigate the technical gaps. The #Coalitions4GOOD Global Hack received over 15 submissions in less than 2 weeks. The shortlisted submissions came from:Grace (UK), Ethichub (Spain), UNICEF Innovation (USA), HeartCoin (Chile) and Patron Foundation (Switzerland). The Coalition Supporters reviewed the technical problems faced by these projects and encouraged node contributors to start the discussions and vote on the issues they believed should move forward to the Design Thinking sessions organized by Gustavo Segovia.

Two challenges were selected and the collective brain power of the Coalition’s Contributors was immediately put to GOOD use, resulting in engaging discussions that helped define and address the challenges.

One of the technical challenges selected for the Design Thinking Sessions was submitted by Ethichub. It was also clear that the challenge affects many Impact projects alike, “How can we find a way for Farmers to safely and easily recover private keys, ensuring that no third party takes control of the Farmers’ funds?” This problem makes the onboarding and adoption of digital wallets, management and transfer funds in the form of crypto currency an arduous task for most people, not to mention for those that may not be familiar with smart phones. We want to make sure “they” (Farmers, in the case of Ethichub hub but in reality for any user) take full control of their private keys while maintaining strong security to protect from theft or loss that could leave devasting effects for them (i.e. loss of funds required to harvest).

Solving this technical challenge for EthicHub unlocks possibilities for many impact projects currently facing adoption challenges.

Entrepreneurs, like Loui, had the opportunity to present his project Arkology. He shares a vision for the preservation of the wealth of medicinal plants used by indigenous peoples around the world. The project aims at starting in South & Central America, utilizing genetic sequencing and decentralized storage to create an open source repository.

With a very energized group of 4GOOD souls and the contagious drive to make the best use of the capabilities of Blockchain to improve the lives of many, the #Coalitions4GOOD closed its first assembly with a roundtable discussion focused on retrospective reflection on the program, the output of the activities, objectives and collaborators who dedicated time to the movement. Finally, all the roundtable participants contributed to the making of the #Coalitions4GOOD purpose and next steps.

The #Coalitions4GOOD is a united force of a diverse group of Supporters that propel the need to prioritize purposed driven models in support of a equitable, fair and sustainable society.

The web3summit experience marks a memorable event for the movement, we see a real value in connecting dots, channelling resources to where they are needed, stimulating open discussions on issues that challenge the adoption of technical impact solutions, opening doors for potential partnerships to thrive and establish a model that can be easily adopted for collaboration, even in a competitive environments. We are still working out the details of the next steps but we know that our next goal is to share the activities of the #Coalitions4GOOD program and reach out to other like-minded communities that see the benefits of working together towards common goals.

Stay tune!
