Official Note About COVID-19 (Coronavirus)

In 15/03/2020, COBRUF’s board of directors laid down a strategy to deal with the impact of the COVID-19 global pandemic in our 2020 missions. COBRUF is following closely the global and national scenarios and authorities recommendations to insure the health and safety of our students and partners and to minimize the virus spread as it is our social responsibility.

At this time, we will not cancel our current missions, as they are planned for the second semester of 2020. However we will continue to monitor the scenario as it unfolds and to take action accordingly.

In the spirit of solidarity, we shared our strategy to other competitions in Brazil, such as LASC, MOBFOG and BAR. We also invited their representatives to form an online group to share updates and set possible joint strategies and aid to minimize negative impacts to both the teams and the events, creating a safe environment for technological development without jeopardizing public health and safety.

Some of the parameters we are considering in our decisions are:

• International and national authorities recommendations.
• Updated predictions from authorities about timelines for virus control.
• The impact of activities suspension in universities and schools.
• The impact of possible suspected and confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the teams.
• The impact of difficulties in supplies acquisition for manufacturing by the teams.
• The impact of possible travelling restrictions.
• The impact of possible missions reschedules in Brazilian federal space centers.

Also, we recommend for teams to follow the best possible procedure to minimize the chances of virus spread and contagious, such as regularly washing your hands, cleaning your phones (including their cases), avoiding large gathering of people and making people aware of accurate scientific data about virus prevention.
