I’ve been enjoying the unique “sammies” and low-key vibe of Little Skips for 8 years. The rotating local art, high ceilings and great natural light make it an ideal place to bang on the laptop a bit before racing to the nearby Myrtle-Broadway JMZ Express stop. (15 minutes to the city!)

These days it’s clear I’m not the only one who feels this way. When I stopped in a couple of weeks ago on my way to talk with Elena Drakos, Little Skips was packed and I found myself standing by the exit awkwardly juggling my cell phone and chamomile!

Elena, a Nooklyn agent and fellow Little Skips fan, aims to help those of us working on the go. A block away at 1024 Broadway she has opened Prosper GoWork, the first of 12 low-frills co-working spaces planned for BK’s coffee-&-wifi set. I met up with her there for a conversation about this new venture, which is just opening for February 2018.

Since she was a field-based account manager for Luxottica, Elena has always worked on the go. When she was in sales, she felt like her office was too cramped and her home too quiet during the day. Now a property manager, real estate agent, and mom to a toddler (!), it’s even harder to work from home, and coffee shops aren’t always ideal for phone calls, client meetings, or even being assured of an available seat.

For those not ready to spend on a pricier cowork in the city, or who are Brooklyn-based, Proper GoWork offers an alternative that costs about as much as a daily coffee or two ($99 per month).

The first location has two stories, with an outdoor work area too! (The commercial lease was brokered by Nooklyn agents Erick Hartz and Josh Levy.)

Elena is giving tours to anyone interested or just curious right now. It’s a welcoming place, with bright colors and eclectic furniture, communal spaces indoors and out, larger private meeting rooms (“greenhouses”), phone booths, diner-style 2–4 person meeting pods, a standing bar, kitchen, and lounge areas. As Elena says, “It’s everything you need and nothing you don’t.”
