“How many <Programming Language X> Developers do you have in your Cocoon talent pool?” Almost every potential client that is contacting us to discuss using Cocoon for their hiring has the same question. And we can’t blame them…of course, they want to know more about our pricing and yes, they are also looking to hire Online Marketeers, Designers, Business Developers and people for other operations roles as well. But let’s be honest, The Netherlands are facing a real shortage in experienced developers.

In order to attract them, Startups, Scaleups and other tech companies are doing everything they can. Why is it that some companies are actually able to be more picky when it comes to their selection processes, while others are actually happy with every single application.

We have done a deep dive into our Cocoon data this week and have checked how people with tech skills are judging the more than 400 companies that are in our database. The final list below is compiled based on 700,000 likes or dislikes on Cocoon.

1. Uber

Not just being the number one on this list, but also looking for more than 10 developer roles at this very moment, Uber is a serious competitor for all companies looking for experienced developers. Since they will be moving to a new smoking hot office to fuel their expansion, there will be plenty of space for the best tech talent. They do tend to have quite long application processes though, so if you are competing for the same talent, shorten your hiring process!

2. Relive

Since we have some avid cyclists in our team, we completely understand why Relive is so popular for developers. Even the pros are using this add-on for Strava and Garmin that is visualising your bike rides in a beautiful way. Especially their mobile developer roles were performing very well with more than 33% of all iOS and Android developers being interested in the job.

3. WeTransfer

This Dutch giant was already the number one on our list of popular tech companies that includes marketing, design and business development talent, but seems to be very popular for engineering talent as well. Our data shows that especially skilled Javascript developers are attracted by them.

This list is compiled of data of more than 400 companies that received a total of 700,000 likes and dislikes on Cocoon. We have neglected companies that received less than 100 interactions in order to not trick you as a reader with some outliers based on little data. The popularity score is calculated as a simple percentage of the likes vs the total interactions on that company’s profile.

We’ll soon share some more data about the correlation between job or company variables and their popularity, which moments in the week are showing a peak in people looking for a new job and on the difference between people with different backgrounds with respect to how selective they are when applying for a new job.
