Announcing GitHub Sync: Synced Organizations For GitHub

We are thrilled to announce “GitHub Sync” — automatic user and repository syncing with GitHub in the latest Codacy update.

In an effort to continue creating quality standardization for software development companies at scale, it should be easy to on board and manage developers and their teams. With this, companies can focus on what matters, like developing a new product.

Why The Update?

With our previous version, users spent time manually replicating all repositories in Codacy and GitHub. Users needed to “create a new organization” before inviting new members. Not only was the need to replicate everything an inconvenience, it also led to duplicate repositories, stuck repositories created with insufficient permissions and blocked pull requests with incorrect statuses.

New Features

We couldn’t be more excited about the GitHub Sync release. It represents a major restructure of our platform and it addresses the most requested features of our users. Large organizations with many users will particularly reap benefits.

Simplified User Management

By setting up a synced organization, your organization’s GitHub members can join you on Codacy without any extra configuration steps.

Permissions Mapping

Changes to membership, like removing a member or change repository level access on GitHub, will reflect on Codacy in real time.

Repository Management

Any GitHub member with sufficient repository access can add new repositories to Codacy with one click.

Availability

Starting today, self-hosted, cloud and open source users will have access to this new way of seamless user management. Synced organizations are now available for GitHub and GitHub Enterprise Server. We’re working on expanding support for more Software Configuration Management (SCM) providers.

If you already have an organization added on Codacy, we recommend that you contact us so that we can migrate you to synced organizations.
