At clubs around the country, Code Club Kids are becoming Code Club Mentors. At Milgate Primary, the kids that have graduated are coming back to help volunteer at their club!

We interviewed Jay, one of the very first peer volunteers at Milgate Primary’s Code Club.

Question: Why did you get involved in code club?

Jay: I heard that my old primary school was starting Code Club and thought it would be a great opportunity.

Question: Why do you like to help out at code club?

Jay: I find it awesome to work with kids and see them learning and working together.

Question: Why do you think it is important to learn code?

Jay: Coding creates great problem solving skills.

Question: What do you want to be when you grow up?

Jay: I want to be a film director.

Question: How has learning to code affected your subject choices, university choices, job choices?

Jay: This has made me really think about why I want to become a director. It has made me look at directing as less of a creative job than I thought, sure you have to be creative to be a director but you also have to learn to work with people and solve problems that may occur.

Question: What’s your favorite project you’ve worked on or helped teach at Code Club?

Jay: I would say they were all really fun to work on, seeing how each student interpreted it differently was really cool.

Question: If you could have a superpower what would it be?

Jay: To slow down/pause and speed up/play time.

We’re so proud of the impact that Code Club has on people’s lives, and that the kids keep coming back!
