Code Club is starting the new year with a bang in Tasmania! Within the first two weeks of the year alone we’ve held two teacher training events, met with local thought leaders and had an unexpected run in with the one and only Malcolm Turnbull. We still can’t believe it ourselves!

Our first teacher training was held at Kingston LINC near Hobart and the second at Launceston LINC where teachers and librarians created some great projects on Scratch and Python so a big thank you to all those that attended!

Training at Launceston

These training days attracted teachers not just from Hobart and Launceston but from all over Tasmania, happy to give up their time in the school holidays to make the trip! At Code Club we tip our hats to these dedicated and motivated teachers and librarians doing all they can to #getkidscoding.

In an exciting turn of events, Tom our Teacher Training Manager, was lucky enough to have the Prime Minister crash a meeting at the Henry Jones Art Hotel in Hobart. Mr. Turnbull leaned in to shake Tom’s hand before speaking to the media in regards to a new deal to promote Technology growth in Hobart. Maybe Mr. Turnbull wants to start his own club too!

But wait, there’s more! Code Club Tasmania’s first meetup of the year will be hosted on February 21st at the Enterprise co-working space, Hobart. At our Volunteer ‘Match-a-thon’ we’ll be matching volunteers, teachers and other Code Club enthusiasts together for an evening of introductions, talks, food and drinks. WHAT MORE COULD YOU WANT!

Spaces are limited so please RSVP to this unmissable event that will help build and strengthen our Code Club community in Tasmania!
