We’re back at Agrihack to for the third year in a row, bringing coding to all parts of Australia!

What is Agrihack? Glad you asked. It’s an annual hackathon, where the agriculture and the technology industry in Wagga Wagga come together to find innovative solutions and methods for challenges faced by Australia’s important agricultural sector.

As part of Agrihack an annual event called Kids Ag Innovation Day is run just for local kids! The day is set to encourage the next generation of farmers to see their future in agriculture from an innovation perspective! The kids work with local businesses to solve community based problems and start thinking about technology as a solution to ideas.

This year it will be held on the 28th of February and we can’t wait to get back to Wagga Wagga, NSW to run coding sessions to get kids started on their coding journey! As part of the event kids also go on a field tour, meet some farmers (and their animals!) and hang out with some local agriculture students.

Last year Agrihack partnered with a milk company, Riverina Fresh, to get kids solving the problem of missing milk crates! Riverina loses 1/3rd of their crates each year!

The kids came up with crazy awesome ideas! Hiring a security guard for every milk delivery, building a catapult to shoot the crates back, using giant vats instead of deliveries of bottles (which also saved plastic) and even tesselating the crates. There’s no limit on the ideas that they came up with, going as far and wide as their imagination would allow.

Code Club ran workshops using Scratch to show kids how to use code to solve problems. They programmed a flying bat and created their own chatbot!

The mission of Agrihack is to offer an opportunity for all sectors to collide and influence the future of work for kids all over Australia! The kids, teachers and industry professionals through Agrihack are inspired and motivated to create innovative and disruptive solutions to problems.

Code Club partners with organisations all over Australia to motivate the local community to code! If you’re keen on connecting with us, contact us to secure your spot in awesome, regional, community focused events.
