Moonhack 2023 has been in the preparation stages since March this year and we are so excited that we are approaching lift-off! Registrations open on August 28th, with the event starting on October 10th. Until then, here is some information to get you excited for this year’s event.

Code Club Australia’s annual, global, online coding challenge is set to launch in 2023 towards the end of World Space Week celebrations. This year we have made our challenge stretch across 3 weeks to ensure every club, school, library, workplace, and home has enough time to register and attempt at least one of our 6 brand-new coding projects.

Since Moonhack started in 2016, over 190 000 people have taken part in this challenge. The projects have taken us to the Outback (2016) and the moon (2018), to driving on the surface of the moon (2019), then to Earth and a sustainability focus (2020), and last year a narrow focus on satellites, both natural and man-made.

This year the theme is built around inventions thought of for space travel and exploration, that are now part of our everyday lives.

On August 28th registrations will open for this year’s Moonhack and we will start releasing the projects so that clubs and classrooms worldwide can decide what projects they would like to use during the challenge weeks.

Each project release will have supporting information. A blog post that will discuss inspiration for the project, introduce you to our Moonhack testers, and for Australian teachers, it will explore curriculum alignment and extra resources. This year each project will also have a code along video that clubs can access on our YouTube channel.

Until then, here are some things to get you ready for Moonhack 2023.

First, mark your calendars!

Your Moonhack challenge can occur any time between the 10th and 26th of October, so make sure you mark your calendars and clear your schedule for maximum fun. If you are choosing to submit your projects back to us, and enter the competitions, then you will have until November 26th to get this done.

Second, subscribe to our Moonhack newsletter.

The newsletter is where we will keep you informed of project releases, important information, when you can register (opens August 26th), shared resources such as posters, and links to blogs about the projects and YouTube tutorials to step you through some of the projects.

Prep your social channels

We will do a lot of our sharing via Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Instagram so make sure you connect with us on your favourite platform. We also hope you will share your Moonhack preparations, events, and posts with us using the hashtag #moonhack.

Would you like to win a class set of 30 Micro:Bits? To celebrate our Constellation project for Moonhack this year, we are giving away 2 sets! Just use #moonhack or @CodeClubAus in a post to share your preparations, excitement or registration this year and you will be in the draw! For full T&Cs visit here.

We can’t wait to share Moonhack 2023 with you!
