This week at Code Club we rebooted our face-to-face training program in Western Sydney. Over the coming months we will be visiting every state to ensure we can reach as many educators and librarians as we can. See our Workshop Calendar on our website and join one of our sessions in your region.

Our workshops are very hands on, with lots and lots of discovery and discussion. At the moment, our free ‘Getting Started with Coding’ workshops cover an introduction to the Australian Curriculum Digital Technologies, Computational Thinking concepts, HTML, Scratch and some Microbit. For those in NSW, all our workshops are all registered with NESA, so not only can you learn something really new, but you can get some well earned registered hours as well.

What struck me as we moved through our day, was that educators really are looking for resources to help them navigate and lead this new and sometimes risky learning environment. They wanted a bunch of resources that are free, guaranteed to help students achieve success, while helping them to learn at the same time. They want low risk learning. And I think that’s totally ok.

When I started at Code Club, I was immediately drawn to the project resources offered to clubs.

There’s 75 hours worth of project resources that all support student directed learning and loads of success. Our Projects cover Scratch, HTML, Python and Sense Hat (as Raspberry Pi add on). Projects also come with completed solutions and support docs for teachers.

I’ve been working my way through these projects myself, and they really are engaging and achievable. You can definitely let students get on with learning while you support and guide from the side.

Importantly for Australian Educators, the Code Club Australian team have have begun mapping our projects to the Australian Curriculum: Digital Technologies area.

If you use these resources, you can feel confident that as you use these resources, you are in fact covering content necessary to achieve outcomes in this new learning area we all find ourselves learning to integrate into day to day activities in our classroom.

Spend some time on our Australian Curriculum mapping page to see just how useful these projects are for anyone integrating the new curriculum into their classroom.

So, as you begin your journey into coding, then don’t forget to join a Code Club Workshop and access our Project Resources. You’ll be coding and having fun in no time! Promise.

Be sure to join our Twitter and Facebook communities and share your student work with the world! Don’t forget to use our hashtag #getkidscoding !!
