My Front End Reading List
Front End is a quickly moving industry, and outside of working with cutting edge tools, libraries and frameworks, the next best thing is to read about them and get an understanding of where the industry is, where it’s moving and plainly, how to get better at what we do every day. I tried to compile here all the sources that I use to stay informed on Front End development, but also on the related technologies in general.
Newsletters
I’ve subscribed to the following newsletter sand get a weekly digest. That’s the quickest way to getting an overview on what is going on.
- ng-newsletter: Quality digest of articles on AngularJS and Angular. This is my bread and butter so my favorite
- FrontEnd Weekly: The best articles, links and news related to Frontend Development.
- Javascript Weekly: ONE e-mail each Friday on everything Javascript across all frameworks.
- Node Weekly: Although I don’t routinely develop full stack lately, a lot of the tools in my ecosystem rely on Node so I like to keep on an eye on Node news as well.
Sites
I don’t visit sites as often as I use to before, I much prefer a RSS approach but that is falling out of favor, I do miss Google RSS Reader. There are aggregator sites though that I consult quite periodically on everything Javascript.
- EchoJS: A good aggregation of news curated and voted on by the community, slants React for the most part.
- JSK: Another good source of Javascript news, curated by moderators and voted on by the community. It also allows you to sign up for a daily
Medium
Nowadays most of the reading that I do is on Medium and there are excellent publications on front end on this platform. Here are the ones I read often:
- nrwl: By Victor Savkin, one of the architects of Angular. A good source for best practices for Angular
- FreeCodeCamp: If you don’t know freeCodeCamp, or you don’t know it, you don’t really want to know :-)
- Hacker Noon: Hackernoon is another great collection of not only developer but technology news.
- DevCenter: The reference when it comes to the happening on the Nigerian tech scene. Highly recommended.
- Netanel Basal: Netanel Basal is my favorite Angular writer, his articles are always very explanatory with good examples for situations that you run into coding everyday.
Flipboard would have made my life easier if it aggregated from personal RSS feeds but it doesn’t. I aggregate from a lot of different sources but collect all articles I find interesting this this here magazine:
You’re welcome to follow.
There you have it, I am always interested in more information sources so if you know of any please share in the comments.
