👋 Welcome

It feels a bit like a time of new beginnings — as if October is our start of the new year. It might be that we’ve reached the beginning of a new grant period, and have several fresh projects and activities in sight. Kelly, Sofía and I all took some time off after a jam packed couple of months, and now we’re back in the swing of things — organizing our work plans for the next quarter, and the next year. We’re seeking some new members to join the Code for All team (we can’t wait to meet you!) and look forward to all of the awesome challenges ahead.

⏰ Sixty Minute Sprint

Where you’ll find the stuff that’s most pressing for the network, which won’t ever be more than an hour of your time, total.

  • Code for All is searching for an Equity & Inclusion Consultant to start work with us in October! If you or someone you know is passionate about creating more equitable and inclusive communities and workplaces, please be sure to check out and share our job call. Applications are open until the end of day (in your timezone) October 6th, 2020.
  • Also (we’re on a hiring blitz!) and are seeking a Fundraising & Partnerships Manager to start work with us in November/December. If you know someone who might be perfect for this role, please share the job call with them. Applications are open until November 2nd, 2020.

🎉 Code for All Updates

In this context, Ciudadanía Inteligente launched the Network of Municipal Innovators OPEN. An opportunity for all public officials to register for free to receive training and certification in content, methodologies, and tools on openness, public innovation, and digital government in a simple and friendly way. Registrations are already available!
  • Civic Tech Sweden 🇸🇪 How Can Data Help Fight Climate Change? is a webinar taking place on October 20th, 14:00–15:30 CET. You can find all upcoming civic tech related events on https://civictech.se/events/ and subscribe to our calendar!
  • Code for Africa 🌍 The CfA Academy team worked alongside our partners at InfoNile and won the Best Data Visualisation at WAN-Ifra’s African Digital Media Awards 2020. The investigative series focused on foreign land grabs across 11 Nile Basin countries. Last year, our team won the same award for our Dominion project. Also forming part of one of the Academy projects, two #WanaData members took home prizes at the Uganda National Journalism Awards. Our fact-checking unit, PesaCheck, has launched a weekly mini-podcast on Twitter. Follow them here to listen to the latest episode every Friday.
  • Code for America 🇺🇸 The Code for America Brigade Congress is coming up October 16–18! Brigade Congress is a conference by and for our volunteer network, made up of keynote talks, community-submitted breakout sessions, Unconference sessions, and more. Register today to attend!
  • Code for Australia 🇦🇺 We’ve recently kicked off two exciting new Fellowships. Our teams are working with Smart Service Queensland on a solution to support small food businesses with labelling and compliance, and the City of Canterbury-Bankstown in NSW on a dashboard app for their smart cities waste management project. With support from the Victorian Government’s Digital Innovation Futures we’re running a series of Tech for Non Tech workshops for general audiences. On the Base Team, we’re working on a Reconciliation Action Plan to formalise our support for Australia’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
  • Code for Canada 🇨🇦 Code for Canada is excited to be a content partner for the upcoming FWD50 conference. We’ll be hosting a series of panels and workshops on digital government and civic tech, culminating in our Fellowship Showcase on Nov. 9. The conference is all virtual this year, and features content and speakers from around the world. We hope to see you there!
  • Code for Pakistan 🇵🇰 This year, as we are executing the KP Government Innovation Fellowship Program remotely and virtually, this year’s midway Demo Day was also moved online. The Fellows shared the progress made so far on their respective projects with representatives from partners of the Fellowship Program, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa IT Board and The World Bank, as well as the Code for Pakistan team. Fellows presented seven new projects from the 6th cycle, and two support projects from previous Fellowship cycles, and received feedback and advice from attendees.
  • K-Monitor 🇭🇺 Our new-born group has just started to grow bigger as new members are joining. With this revitalization we’ll be promoting the Tech Contra Virus platform (forked from C4PL). Besides this, the core team is working to further develop (English and German versions) the recently launched Hotel Oligarch (website, EN description).
  • mySociety 🇬🇧 TICTeC Seminars are going on, and are available to stream post-seminar as well!
